Midway between PoggioVerrano and the Argentario promontory there is the village of Albinia.
It is located on the Albegna river very close to the Mediterranean sea.
At the time of the Romans the wines from this area were exported in most Europe including France.
During recent archaeological excavations at Bibract in Burgundy hundreds of wine amphora were found. Based on how they are marked the experts say that these amphoras were made in Albinia, Maremma.
What a fantastic discovery!
Isn’t it amazing the longstanding link between Maremma and wine?
