As a rule we wait until the end of the harvest to talk about it.
Contrary to usual, the second part of the spring was rainy and cool which caused irregular flowering. Then starting from the middle of June there was hot and dry weather. The combination of excessive rainfall followed by draught like conditions caused the vines to produce more vegetation than fruit that also had some maturation problems. Based on the ideal weather conditions of previous years and my “natural” approach I had planned to make steps toward organic farming but unfortunately in this type of unexpected season peronospera and oidium became rampant. As a consequence the grapes were not the quality we look for our Dròmos.
So we have decided to develop a new less complex wine which we will talk about in the coming months.
You can now find Dròmos 2005 which is an outstanding vintage and has just been released (see the news about the Gold Medal at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles).
In the future be on the look out for 2006 and 2007 which are also two excellent vintages here from PoggioVerrano.
